Abstract

Many students learning English as a second language experience nervousness and lack confidence while speaking in the classroom. Fear of making mistakes, limited speaking practice, and anxiety often prevent learners from expressing their ideas freely during lessons. This study examines how regular speaking practice influences students’ confidence and classroom participation in ESL classes.

The research was carried out through classroom observations, questionnaires, speaking activities, and practical teaching tasks during pedagogical practice. Different communicative activities such as pair work, discussions, presentations, role plays, and question-answer sessions were organized regularly during lessons. The findings showed that continuous speaking practice helped students become more confident, active, and comfortable while communicating in English.

The study also revealed that supportive classroom environments and positive teacher feedback reduced speaking anxiety and encouraged learners to participate more willingly during speaking tasks. Students who practiced speaking regularly demonstrated better fluency, stronger classroom interaction, and greater confidence in expressing their opinions.

The findings suggest that frequent communication practice and interactive classroom activities play an important role in developing speaking confidence in ESL learning environments.
