THE LIFE AND LITERARY LEGACY OF SALOMĖJA NĖRIS

Abstract

Salomėja Nėris is one of the most prominent and complex figures in Lithuanian literary history. Known for her deeply emotional and lyrical poetry, she contributed significantly to the development of modern Lithuanian literature. However, her life and work are also marked by political controversy, particularly her involvement during the Soviet occupation of Lithuania. This study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of her biography, literary themes, stylistic features, and historical context using the IMRAD framework. Through qualitative textual and historical analysis, the research demonstrates that Nėris’s poetry reflects an intricate interplay between personal emotion, national identity, and ideological conflict. The study concludes that despite political debates surrounding her legacy, Nėris remains a central figure in Lithuanian literary canon.
