Abstract

This article examines the historical development of linguistics and its relationship with related disciplines. The aim of the study is to analyze the evolution of linguistic thought from ancient times to modern theoretical approaches and to highlight its interdisciplinary significance. The research applies a descriptive and historical-analytical method to explore major linguistic traditions and contributions of prominent scholars such as Panini, Aristotle, Ferdinand de Saussure, and Noam Chomsky. The findings demonstrate that linguistics has gradually developed from early grammatical descriptions to complex structural, generative, and interdisciplinary models. The study shows that modern linguistics is closely connected with psychology, sociology, anthropology, education, and computer science. The article concludes that linguistics plays a fundamental role in understanding human communication, cognitive processes, and social interaction, and continues to expand through technological and scientific advancements.
