Abstract

This article examines the main aspects of English lexicology, focusing on the structure, development, and functioning of the English vocabulary. It discusses the historical layering of the lexicon, major word-formation processes, patterns of semantic change, and the role of collocations in shaping meaning. The article is based on a descriptive and analytical review of linguistic literature and examples from contemporary English. The findings highlight that English vocabulary is a dynamic and flexible system influenced by borrowing, linguistic innovation, and changing communicative needs. The article provides a clear overview of how lexical units are formed, how their meanings evolve, and how they are used in natural communication.
