The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools into higher education is fundamentally transforming teaching and learning processes. This study investigates the role of AI-powered tools — including ChatGPT, Grammarly, and AI-driven management systems — in developing critical thinking skills among university students. Drawing on a review of recent empirical studies and theoretical frameworks, the paper examines how AI tools support higher-order cognitive processes such as analysis, evaluation, synthesis, and reflection. The study also addresses the potential risks, including over-reliance on AI-generated content and reduction of independent thinking. The findings show that when AI tools are integrated thoughtfully within pedagogical frameworks, they can serve as effective instruments for developing critical thinking. The study recommends strategies for maximizing educational benefits of AI while preserving intellectual independence.
