PHONOLOGICAL PROCESSES

Abstract

This article examines phonological processes — systematic sound pattern changes in languages. It explores theoretical frameworks, identifies common processes (e.g., assimilation, deletion, insertion, metathesis), and empirically analyzes their occurrence in English, Russian, and Uzbek. Using qualitative phonological analysis and comparative methods, the study highlights language-specific patterns and cross-linguistic tendencies. Results demonstrate the roles of phonological environments, constraints, and language structure in shaping phonological alternations.
