DEMONSTRATION OF DIFFICULTY IN ACCURATELY INTERPRETING THE GIVEN PROMPT IN WRITING SKILL OF B1 LEVEL EFL LEARNERS

Abstract

This study investigates the difficulties B1 level EFL learners experience in accurately interpreting writing prompts. Understanding a prompt correctly is a crucial step in producing effective academic writing. However, many learners misunderstand task requirements, which leads to incomplete or irrelevant written responses. This research analyzes writing samples from B1 level bachelor students to identify common problems related to prompt interpretation. The findings reveal that limited vocabulary knowledge, weak reading comprehension skills, lack of familiarity with academic writing tasks, and insufficient training in prompt analysis negatively affect learners’ writing performance. The study emphasizes the importance of teaching prompt interpretation strategies in EFL writing classes to improve overall writing quality.
