This study examines the impact of difficulties in comprehending fast speech on the listening performance of A2-level Uzbek learners and evaluates the effectiveness of the Word-Chain Listening (WCL) method. Fast speech features such as connected speech, reductions, and rapid pronunciation often hinder learners’ listening comprehension and increase anxiety. A mixed-method research design was employed involving forty learners aged 15–20 with at least one year of English learning experience. The intervention was conducted over four weeks, during which learners practiced reconstructing sentences incrementally using the word-chain technique with gradually increasing audio speed. Data were collected through listening dictation tests, classroom observation, and learner feedback. The results revealed a significant improvement in listening accuracy and confidence, with average scores increasing from 45% before the intervention to 72% after implementation. The findings suggest that the Word-Chain Listening method is an effective and practical approach for improving fast speech comprehension among A2-level EFL learners.
