THE IMPACT OF SPEAKING ANXIETY ON B1 LEARNERS’ FLUENCY

This article investigates the impact of speaking anxiety on the fluency of B1-level learners of English as a foreign language. Speaking anxiety is considered one of the major psychological factors that negatively influences learners’ oral performance. The study focuses on how anxiety affects learners’ speech rate, hesitation, and participation during speaking activities. A qualitative research approach was applied, including classroom observation and analysis of learners’ speaking behavior. The findings reveal that high levels of speaking anxiety lead to frequent pauses, reduced speech flow, and avoidance of speaking tasks. The article highlights the importance of creating a supportive learning environment to reduce anxiety and improve learners’ speaking fluency.
