INVESTIGATING THE EFFECT OF ROLE-PLAY ACTIVITIES ON SPEAKING CONFIDENCE AT A2 LEVEL LEARNERS

Abstract

Speaking confidence is a major challenge for A2-level English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners worldwide. Learners at this level often experience anxiety, fear of making mistakes, and limited opportunities to practice spoken English in meaningful contexts. This exploratory action research study investigates the effect of role-play activities on learners’ speaking confidence. Data were collected through a multiple-choice questionnaire administered before and after a four-week role-play intervention. The results indicate that role-play activities positively influenced learners’ confidence, reduced speaking anxiety, and increased willingness to participate in oral communication. The study suggests that role-play is an effective pedagogical strategy for improving speaking confidence at the A2 level.
