DEVELOPING INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE IN ENGLISH CLASSROOMS: CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS IN UZBEKISTAN

Abstract

 This study examines the significance of developing intercultural communicative competence in English language classrooms in Uzbekistan, focusing on the challenges and effective strategies for integrating cultural awareness into language education. It highlights the essential role of intercultural knowledge, attitudes, and skills in preparing learners for global communication in the 21st century. The paper explores the main barriers faced by teachers and students, such as a lack of authentic materials, limited exposure to diverse cultures, and insufficient teacher training, and proposes practical solutions, including culture-based tasks, virtual exchanges, and reflective learning. The experiences and scholarly works of international experts in intercultural education have been analyzed and adapted to the Uzbek context, providing insights for developing globally competent and culturally aware English learners.
