This article explores the impact of gamification and digital tools on English language learners’ motivation and academic achievement. Drawing on previous empirical research published between 2016 and 2024, the study uses a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative and qualitative analyses. Results demonstrate that gamification enhances learners’ motivation, engagement, and performance by integrating game elements such as badges, levels, and leaderboards. Platforms like Kahoot!, Quizizz, and Duolingo were found to increase enjoyment, participation, and retention of language skills. Moreover, gamified environments foster collaborative learning, reduce anxiety, and encourage self-reflection. However, excessive competition or visual overload may lead to distraction, emphasizing the need for balanced pedagogical design. The study concludes that thoughtfully applied gamification promotes intrinsic motivation and transforms English language learning into an interactive and effective process.
