Abstract

This exploratory action research investigates the common obstacles non-native English learners face in mastering English pronunciation. Conducted in an EFL (English as a Foreign Language) classroom setting, the study aims to identify the specific challenges students encounter, explore the underlying causes, and implement practical interventions to address them. The data were gathered through classroom observations, pronunciation tasks, interviews, and reflective journals over a six-week period. Findings indicate that the most significant barriers include native language interference, lack of phonological awareness, and anxiety related to speaking. Interventions such as minimal pair drills, phonetic transcription practice, and peer feedback showed positive impacts. The study concludes that a combination of student-centered strategies and increased exposure to authentic language can significantly improve pronunciation proficiency.
