EXPLORING COMMON PROBLEMS IN WRITING TASK 1 AN ACTION RESEARCH APPROACH

Abstract

This exploratory action research investigates the common problems students face in completing Writing Task 1 of the IELTS Academic module. The study was conducted with intermediate-level English learners preparing for the IELTS exam. Data were collected through observation, analysis of students’ written work, and semi-structured interviews. Findings indicate that students struggle with data interpretation, paraphrasing, organizing information logically, and using appropriate academic vocabulary and grammar. The study aims to identify these issues in order to implement targeted instructional strategies that enhance learners' performance. Suggestions for improving writing instruction and overcoming these obstacles are also discussed.
