Grammar is a foundational aspect of language proficiency, yet it remains a persistent challenge for English as a Second Language (ESL) learners. This exploratory action research investigates the nature and causes of grammar-related difficulties among high school ESL students. The study aims to identify specific grammar problems, explore their underlying causes, and experiment with targeted intervention strategies. Data were collected through classroom observations, diagnostic assessments, and student interviews. The findings suggest that frequent issues include subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and article usage. Contributing factors range from first language interference to insufficient contextualized practice. The research highlights the importance of interactive, learner-centered grammar instruction and recommends practical steps for language educators.
