Abstract

Vocabulary acquisition is a critical component of second language learning, yet many learners face persistent challenges in acquiring and retaining new words. This exploratory action research investigates the main issues students encounter in learning vocabulary in English language classrooms. Using a survey-based approach, data were collected from 60 secondary school students and 10 English language teachers across three schools. The study aimed to identify common difficulties, such as lack of motivation, inadequate exposure, and ineffective teaching strategies. The findings suggest that both students and teachers perceive the need for more interactive and context-based learning techniques. Based on the results, the paper recommends practical improvements for vocabulary instruction, including the integration of multimedia resources and task-based learning activities.
